The 3rd International Conference on Food Contaminants - Challenges on Risk Assessment occured in Aveiro (Portugal), 26th and 27th September 2019. This conference focused on Food Contaminants and Human Health, with a special session dedicated to the risk-benefit assessment of foods.

Two members of Secalim are involved in the scientific committee of the conference, Jeanne-Marie Membré, researcher at Secalim, and Géraldine Boué, associate professor at Secalim. A total of 130 participants from 18 different countries attended a unique session with 17 invited speakers from recognised international institutions and 94 communications, 10 oral and 84 as poster. Specific topics adressed were on new perspectives of risk assessment of foods, human exposure to chemical and microbiological contaminants as well as nutritional components; risk assessment and recent developments on risk-benefit assessment.

Sandrine Guillou, Deputy head of Secalim contributed to the session on other agents (microbiological and nutritional) affecting risks with an oral communication on the Integration of omics into microbiological risk assessment, based on an editorial and four publications issued from a collaborative work of a European consortium1.

Géraldine Boué contributed to the session on Risk-benefit assessment in foods in Europe with an oral communication on lessons learned from the RiskBenefit4EU project  on Building capacity in risk-benefit assessment of foods, based on a recent publication2.

The NovRBA project on risk-benefit assessment of novel foods as red meat substitutes was presented by Ermolaos Ververis in an oral presentation3. This project is carried out in partnership with the University of Kapodistrienne of Athens (NKUA), the Dannish  Technical Institute (DTU) and Federal German Institute on risk assessment (BfR) and involves several Secalim researchers: Géraldine Boué, Michel Federighi and Vincent Tesson.
