UMR SECALIM co-organised two symposiums and presented two oral communications orales at the European conference of food safety that was held from the 11th to the 13th of may in Athens.

Organised by the International Agency of Food Protection the conference gathered in Athens 350 researchers around thematics such as risk assessment, metabolomics, control of viruses and sporulant bacteria.
Jeanne-Marie Membré from UMR SECALIM, already in the scientific comittee of the conference since 2012, was designated as vice-president this year.
The Unite co-organised two symposiums:

  •     One symposium on the control strategies of foodborne pathogens with a focus on Campylobacter in broiler, initiated by Nabila Haddad from SECALIM, with the participation of Muriel Guyard from Anses Ploufragan. Manuel Saint-Cyr from SECALIM exposed the results of the interregional project Campylow aiming at using a probiotic strain of Lactobacillus salivarius, SMXD51, for decreasing the prevalence of Campylobacter in broiler.
  •     A second symposium co-organised by Marie-France Pilet, SECALIM director, and Luca Cocolin from the University of Turino in Italy, dealt with microbial interactions and their link with food safety. Marie-France Pilet reportedthe inhibition activity of Lactococcus piscium on Listeria monocytogenes, observed in the PhD work of Taous Saraoui who recently defended her PhD thesis in the unit.

UMR SECALIM also gave two oral communications on Risk Assessment (QMRA):

  •     The results of a QMRA study performed in collaboration with Jeanne-Marie Membré were presented by Mohammed Ziane from the University Centre of  Ain témouchent in Algeria. The study dealt with the risk associated with Bacillus cereus in couscous consumed in Algeria.
  •     Lastly, Sandrine Guillou from UMR SECALIM, presented a meta-analysis on the inactivation of three main foodborne pathogens by High pressure.
