Welcome Rodney Feliciano

Welcome Rodney Feliciano

We are delighted to welcome Rodney Feliciano! Rodney has joined SECALIM as a new INRAE Research Associate.

Rodney Feliciano is a scientist specialized in food safety research and the holistic assessment of food systems.  His research interests include risk-based food safety, exposure models, multi-criteria decision analysis techniques, non-thermal processing and life cycle assessment. He has worked on previous research projects as a postdoctoral researcher on the Horizon Europe project “Innovative holistic food safety early warning and risk assessment system”, HOLIFOOD.

In 2023, Rodney Feliciano defended his phD. thesis carried out at SECALIM as part of the PROTECT-ITN project funded by the Marie Skłodowska Curie -International Training Networks program. It focused on the construction of a Quantitative Microbiological Exposure Assessment model to determine the impact of key process steps on human health risks and sterility defects, and identify risk reduction strategies to minimize overall microbiological risks and environmental impact. This study was carried out in partnership with the University of Santiago de Compostela and Al Safi Danone, Saudi Arabia. His previous academic training was at the University of the Philippines, with a research collaboration at Hiroshima University in Japan.

Rodney's research activities in the unit are linked to the Assess food safety theme. Rodney's ambition is to develop the research theme of “integrating microbiological food safety into a holistic, multi-criteria assessment” within SECALIM and the MICA department.  Within the department, his skills will also underpin the strengths in food safety and risk assessment that are at the heart of the “Risk and benefit assessment (multi-criteria)” science front of Grand Strategic Objective 1.
